FARROWING PEN

FARROWING PEN

The farrowing stall features a cast iron floor for a sow and concrete or plastic grating floors for piglets. Side restraints in the pen reduce the chance of piglets being crushed by the sow while feeding. The feeding trough and the shelf in the farrowing pen stay at some distance from the floor, thereby providing additional space for the sow.

Description

5 to 7 days prior to farrowing a respective sow is lodged in a farrowing stall in a separate box fenced with partitions 500 to 700 mm high that provide protection for the piglets while ensuring operator’s supervision. The farrowing stall features a cast iron floor for a sow and concrete or plastic grating floors for piglets, slots for suckling piglets, floor heating, nipple water drinker feeders and small troughs for supplementary feeding the piglets.
